What is Traditional Indian Music?
Indian traditional music has its own importance and
this music is divided into two major parts:
1.Hindustani music of North India
2.Karnatak music of South India

SITAR
Sitar is very old and popular music instruments of
Indian Classical culture and North India.
The Sitar is long neck with twenty frets.

Sarod
Sarod has a small wooden body covered with skin and
a fingerboard that is covered with steel. Sarod does
not have a fret and has twenty-five strings of which
fifteen are sympathetic strings. A metal gourd acts as a
resonator. The strings are plucked with a triangular
plectrum

Sarangi
Sarangi is very old and traditional instrument of India.
Sarangi is having hollow and made of wood with ivory
inlays.
Sarangi has forty strings and thirty seven are
sympathetic.
Famous Indian Sarangi players are Rehman Bakhs,
Ghulam Sabir, Pt Ram Narayan, and Ustad Sultan
Khan.

Tabla
Tabla is very popular musical instrument and widely
used in North India.
The Tabla is played in pair and pair of two small
drums.
The Tabla is made of wood and its head is made of
some animal skin.

Flute
Flute is a also a very old traditional and simple
instrument. Its a cylindrical tube of some bore in it.
It is made of a fine wood. Its very simple and it
produces melody when used fingers on holes of flute
to play.
India’s most famous flute players are Pt Pannalal
Ghosh and Pt Hari Prashad Chaurasia.

Shehnai
Shehnai is a traditional instrument and from older days
its played regularly in marriages, Temples and holy
occasions.
The Shehnai consists of holes and to produce semi
tones. Famous Shehnai players are Ustad Bismillah
Khan.

Harmonium
The harmonium made of wood .
Very popular musical instrument of India. The
harmonium consists of keyboard. The keyboard is
played. Right hand is used to play keyboard and left
hand is used to blow the fan. Harmonium is a north
Indian Style Instrument.
