An Acre’s Worth of Cows on a Small
                     
General Guidelines    
The typical guideline is 1:1. 
Thus, there is one cow for 
every acre of grass. 
Remember that's just the 
bare minimum. The normal 
requirement for a cow/calf 
combo is closer to two 
acres.   Additionally, the daily 
livestock utilization rate is 
frequently mentioned. This 
figure, 4%, indicates that 
livestock must consume 4% 
of their daily body weight.   
Management 
Elements   Will They 
Eat Anything?     
Grass is a cow's natural diet. 
Supplements or replacements for 
grains frequently come in use. Cows 
who are fed only grass will obviously   
need more pasture than cows that 
are fed only grain or a combination 
of both.   We will assume for the 
purposes of this blog that we are 
discussing cows that are solely fed 
grass. The cow, the environment, 
and the final customer will all benefit 
most from this choice.
