DARJEELING 
             
Tea gained popularity in the west and through the efforts 
of the East India Company, India has some of the best tea 
growing tea regions in the world. Experts from China were 
brought over to India to teach the British and locals how to 
harvest and produce the beverage. By 1823, Assam and 
Darjeeling regions of India were producing large quantities 
of tea. Tea estates were built and soon tea plants 
dominated the rolling hillsides. Darjeeling is the most 
popular tea growing region in India and is also world 
renowned for cultivating premium quality teas.
DARJEELING
Darjeeling is the most popular region of tea cultivation in the world. Located 
in the eastern part of India, this region produces the much revered tea also 
known as Champagne of Tea. This is the region that can be attributed to 
make 
Indian teas popular worldwide. This region produces black, green, oolong 
and 
white teas. Since, this region is an old tea hub. The techniques are orthodox 
to 
maintain the quality of tea associated with the craft of tea cultivation here. 
The characteristic features of the teas here are mild bodied, bright colours 
and strong astringency. Some of the famous tea estates from the region are 
Jungpana, 
Goomtee, Makaibari, Singtom, and Gopaldhara. The teas grown
in this region consistently receive awards in auctions.
JUNGPANA TEA ESTATE: 1899

It was owned by the esteemed Kejriwal family.  It is one of the only tea estates that 
uses original British Machinery that has been maintained through all these years to 
make tea, which adds to the perfect processing of tea.  They are known for their 
Exquisite quality produce of green, black and oolong tea.
GOOMTEE TEA ESTATE: 1899

It shares close proximity with Jungpana and Castleton. It was later sold to the 
Kejriwal family  who have continued the ownership until now. The plantation 
produces black and oolong teas. Their second flush china bush are a popular 
variety
GOPALDHARA 
TEA ESTATE: 
1881
It is one of the highest tea plantations in the 
district (5500 ft-7000 ft). Before tea the land 
was used to cultivate paddy. The tea seeds took 
very well to the weather and a new name was 
created that would charm tea lovers across with 
their fine quality teas. The estate boasts of exquisite 
qualities of white, green, oolong and black teas.
GIDDAPAHAR TEA 
ESTATE: 1881 
Giddapahar, which translates to eagle peak in English. It does large scale production 
of the world famous Darjeeling Tea. This tea estate produces one of the finest 
quality of Darjeeling tea, which is famous across the world. It features a unique 
combination of traditional China, Clonal and Assam bushes. It also produces green 
teas in the month of July every year. 
ROHINI TEA 
ESTATE 
The plantation is the newest in the Darjeeling. It was shut for over 
38 years and was reopened in the year 2000. Today, the total 
cultivated area of the garden is around 146 Hectares of which 108 
Hectares is young tea. Rohini produces delightful muscatel rich teas 
in summer, in its new age factory.
SELIM TEA ESTATE: 1870

Mr. Henry was popularly known as “Selim Saheb”. This estate is adjacent to Rohini 
tea Estate, Giddapahar Tea Estate and Jogmaya Tea Estate. The plantation features 
pure china tea.
