HISTORY OF TIRUPATI BALAJI TEMPLE
Tirupati Balaji Temple better known as Shree Venkateshwara
temple in one of the most famous & crowded pilgrimage centers in
India. Devotees are attracted here from all over the world, in the
belief that their prayers get answered. Most of the scriptures
described it as the place where Lord Vishnu resides in Kali Yuga.
Deity to be the self-manifested statue of Lord Maha Vishnu, who
presented himself in this temple to help his devotees from the evil
of kali age. The temple is a crucial milestone of the Hindu
mythology, which holds a glorious place in the Tirumala Hills in
Chittur district of Andra Pradesh.

THE GREATNESS OF THE TEMPLE
It is one of the popular temple inviting several
devotees in a day. The Vishnu’s vaahana ‘Garuda’
welcomes devotees to the temple flushed with legend
and faith. Thousands of devotees wait outside
patiently to get the blessing of Lord Maha Vishnu.
Hundreds of devotees drawn to this sacred temple and
their offering ranges from coconut to gold, and there is
an interesting myth behind this too. Believed as to be
a contribution to the lord Shree Venkateshwara for a
loan he took from ‘Kubera’, the god of wealth to marry
Lakshmi in the form of Padmavathi.

An age-old practice, hair donation followed here.
Many people shave their head for the prayers they
made before having the blessing from inside the
temple. It represents a sacrifice of material beauty
and giving up of one’s false ego.
This temple is referred to as ‘Temple of Seven Hills’,
since situated on the hill and spread over 26.75sq.km
of area. Everything about Tirupati temple is alluring
from the idol to the aura around the deity. ‘Laddu
Maha Prasadam’ from here is very famous all over.
Brahmavotsavam and Vaikunta Ekadashi are the
main festivals conducted here.

HISTORY
The Shree Venkateshwara temple has held in great
reference through history. The construction of the
temple began in 300AD, and it continued with the
contribution from many kings from time to time.
Many of the ancient texts have mentioned about the
prominence of the temple.

TIRUPATI TEMPLE CONSTRUCTION
Believed, Lord Vishnu once appeared in King Thondaiman’s,
dream who was the king at that time and had asked him to
construct the temple. King Thondaiman then started with the
construction of precincts and towering gateway of the temple.
He wanted his subjects to worship the Lord regularly. The
Pallava kingdom donated a lot for the temple. Later on, the
temple then developed by Chola and Vijayanagara Empire.
Several kings supported the temple until it gets passed to the
control of East India Company.
Later on, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam(TTD) took the
administration of the Tirupati Temple. TTD was intuited in 1932.
The Lord Venkatesa’s statue, located inside the temple in the
Sanctum Sanctorum is called Ananda Nilayam. This gold-plated
tower, “Ananda Nilayam” housed the main Deity and is
constructed around the 12th century A.D. The temple built as
per the Dravidian architecture.

HISTORY AND LEGENDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE TEMPLE
Puranas says that Lord Vishnu came to Tirumala hills in
human form for serving some purpose. After that, God
remained on the hills. To help humanity in the dark age, the
Lord turned Himself into stone.
The Hindu scripture mentions the story of Balaji as follows.
Sage Brighu once went in search to find out who is the
supreme one in the Hindu triad Gods, the ‘Trimurti’. He was
not satisfied with the way he got treated by Brahma and
Shiva. He approached Lord Vishnu in anger and kicked the
chest of the Lord to grab his attention. Goddess Lakshmi got
insulted as she resides in the chest of Maha Vishnu and that
Lord didn’t utter a word at the Sage. She left Vaikunta and
went to earth. Lord Vishnu then came to earth in search of
Lakshmi, who was named as Padmavathi and got married to
her.

THE GLORY OF THE TEMPLE
Everything about Shree Venkateshwara temple is
lordly from its non-stop reciting of ‘Om Namo
Venkatesaya’ to the 8-feet tall idol of Lord
Venkateshwara. Believed that, Tirupati Balaji Temple
is a place where Lord Vishnu will reside during this
Kali Yuga.
The temple premises provide food to all pilgrims and
also include lodging centers and hair tonsure
buildings.
