Heart Failure
The heart is a key component of the circulatory system tasked with supplying blood, oxygen
and nutrients across the body. When the organ fails to keep up with its function, heart failure
occurs. Heart failure is a misleading name, as the heart does not suddenly stop beating but
simply fails to pump blood the way it should. Per the top cardiologist in India, the condition is
preventable with a few lifestyle changes. Estimates vary, but the condition takes a toll of 1.3 to
4.6 million lives annually in India with a yearly incidence of 491 600 to 1.8 million.
Left Side
Left side of the heart is home to the left ventricle that pumps
oxygenated blood to all body parts. When the left ventricle is
rendered incapable of functioning, the body is denied oxygen,
leading to left-sided heart failure.
Right Side
The right ventricle directs the blood into the lungs to gather oxygen. If it fails to live
up to the workload, the right-side heart failure is inevitable. Often, it’s a result of
left-side heart failure, as the right ventricle has to push harder to make up for the
non-functioning left ventricle. It’s second only to left-side heart failure in
commonness.
Risk Factors
Heart failure, certain factors expose you to this condition, s Race:
Individuals of African descent are more vulnerable
