WHAT ARE WISDOM TEETH AND WHY IS IT
IMPORTANT TO GET THEM REMOVED?
Wisdom tooth are the third set of molars that typically emerge in the late teens or early twenties. While
some people may have enough room in their mouth for these extra teeth, others may not. In such cases, it
is important to get wisdom teeth removed as they can cause pain and discomfort. In some cases, they can
also lead to overcrowding and misalignment of the other teeth. Wisdom tooth removal surgery is a
relatively simple procedure that helps to prevent potential dental problems in the future.
CHOOSING AN EXPERIENCED ORAL SURGEON AND
PREPARING FOR THE PROCEDURE
When it comes to oral health, it is important to choose an experienced and reputable oral surgeon or
dentist. Not only will they be able to provide the best care and advice, but they will also ensure that the
procedure goes as smoothly as possible. At Integrity Dental, we make sure to inform our patients on what
to expect before the procedure, during and after. By getting ready for a tooth extraction, you can help
make sure that you have a successful outcome and recovery.
THE PROCEDURE – WHAT TO EXPECT
DURING THE SURGERY?
It is important to understand the procedure and what to expect during the surgery so that you can
make an informed decision about your treatment. At Integrity Dental, our dentist will provide an
overview of the tooth extraction procedure and discuss what you should expect during recovery,
including pain management and estimated recovery time.
POST-SURGERY CARE: HOW TO TAKE
CARE OF YOURSELF AFTER GETTING YOUR
WISDOM TOOTH REMOVED
After getting a wisdom tooth removed, it is important to take proper care of yourself in order to
ensure a quick and successful recovery. This means following the instructions provided by your
dentist or oral surgeon, including taking medications as prescribed and following any aftercare
instructions. It also involves taking certain steps at home to ensure that your body heals properly
and you don’t experience any complications.
TO DO :
Elevate your head – Sit in an upright position and keep your head above the heart. If you are going to
take a nap or sleep, use extra pillows to keep your head elevated. This helps minimize swelling.
Apply cold compress for the first 24 hours after the procedure.
Apply warm compress – This helps alleviate the swelling. Apply it for 15 mins and then wait again for
another 15 minutes before doing hot compress. This is usually done on the second day after operation.
Saltwater rinse- you can rinse your mouth warm water and salt to get rid of harmful bacteria. This is
started 24 hours after the procedure.
Take your prescribed medications given by your dentist.
DON’T DO :
Do not use straws – do not use straws for the first twenty-four hours after surgery. This might
dislodge the blood clot that has formed in the socket.
Do not smoke or drink alcohol – this may cause the level of pain to increase and will hinder the
healing process.
Do not blow your nose – This may be hard, but you can wipe your nose and if you have to sneeze
you should sneeze with an open mouth into a tissue. This is because we don’t want to dislodge the
healing blood clot that has formed.
TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF AFTER WISDOM
TOOTH REMOVAL IS KEY FOR OPTIMAL HEALING
AND COMFORT
Wisdom tooth removal is a common dental procedure that can help improve your oral health and
provide relief from pain and discomfort. However, it’s important to remember that after the surgery,
you need to take steps to ensure optimal healing and comfort. This includes following your dentist’s
