Our free ping test allows you to check the response time of websites and servers from 
three locations around the world. Access more locations by signing up for free or get 
access to all locations with the Starter or Professional plans.
The ping test works by sending ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) packets to 
the specified host address to measure response times and detect errors from your 
choice of any one of our 25 monitoring locations, giving you a global view of the host's 
availability and performance on the internet.
After sending the packets, the ping test reports back the duration of each ICMP ping 
request, along with a status of the request (success or failure). If the status of the ping is 
a failure, the system reports back an error code and an error description, such as a 
DNS error with an error code of 12007.

The ping test tool helps network administrators to quickly see the specific locations or regions 
around the world that may be experiencing slowdowns or outages. The ping test is not only 
useful for determining whether a website is up or down, but it can be used to establish 
baseline performance metrics. By running multiple ping tests, you can identify average server 
response times from different locations around the globe. These baseline performance 
numbers can later be used in conjunction with our other free tools within Dotcom-Tools to 
gauge how performance changes over time.
What affects ping?
Internet connection speed, above all else, affects ping. And for online gamers, internet 
connection speed is everything. Speed can also be affected by how much data a network is 
juggling and how many users are on that network at the same time.
How can I test my ping?
1.For Windows 10, go to Search in the taskbar and:
2.Type “cmd” to bring up the Command Prompt.
3.Open the Command Prompt.
4.Type “ping” in the black box and hit the space bar.
5.Type the IP address you'd like to ping (e.g., 192. XXX. X.X).
6.Review the ping results displayed.
How do I test my ping for gaming?
Go to the game settings and look for an option like “display performance stats” or “display 
network options.” Note: the wording may vary game to game. This in game ping test will give 
you the most accurate measure of network performance for the specific game and server you 
are playing on.
