• Ravi discontinued his education in 2019, four months after enrolling in Class 12 at the age of 17. Despite 
being encouraged to go back to school, he stood firm on his decision. To add to it, schools were closed due 
to the COVID-19 pandemic, making Ravi conveniently forget about school and education. “I've lost interest 
in education; I'm not sure why”, says Ravi who now works at a stone quarry.
CHILDHOOD RESCUE
• Mani had always aspired to become an IAS officer. Now, paying 
back the debts of the family is his priority. Although Mani regrets 
dropping out of school, he finds solace in the fact that he is 
being of help to his family. He is determined to help his two 
younger brothers to complete their education. He does not want 
them to make the same decision.
• Although Mani, his brother and his father are working hard to 
repay the loan for more than seven years, they haven’t even 
have repaid half the debt. 
• Child labour is a never-ending vicious cycle. Once in it, there is 
hardly a way out. Help parents understand the importance of

BACK TO SCHOOL
When Mani was 14 years old the family was struggling to pay off their debts. It was around that his 
mother abandoned the family. His father and elder brother are daily wage labourers working hard to pay 
off their loans. Seeing his father and brother struggle, Mani was overcome with guilt. Therefore decided 
to work to help the family repay the loans.
“My day starts at 6 am every day and ends at 1 am”, says Mani.
Babu makes the best decision
After six months of working hard in a textile shop and a cotton mill, Babu quickly realised that working 
at such a young age was not as easy as he imagined it to be. Babu underwent immense physical and 
mental exertion at his workplace.
His father is an alcoholic who is abusive towards the family. Babu decided to discontinue his studies 
after Class 9 to support his family. But he soon regretted his decision.
Babu participated in World Vision India's life skills training programme where he understood the 
importance of education. After being counselled by the staff, he realised he still had time to pursue 
education. Babu has enrolled himself in an ITI (Industrial Training Institute) college near his village. He is 
hopeful of a good future.
Like Babu, there lakhs of children who want to turn away from child labour and start afresh. Join World

Children like Ravi are drawn to the youth in the 
village who work at the quarry and splurge their 
earnings on themselves. What may seem appealing 
now will only be detrimental in the end. The 
pandemic has made things worse for children like 
him. After schools closed, education is completely out 
of their minds.
