Edible Ink Cartridges: All You Need to Know
The edible ink cartridges we supply contain three inks: Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow. When
mixed, the three inks produce a fourth—Black. Our edible ink cartridges are available in
two different formulations: one approved for use in the USA and Canada and another that
is approved for use in the EU. The only difference between these two is the composition of
the Magenta ink.
FAQs for Edible Ink Cartridges
● How much do the ink cartridges cost?
The single cyan/magenta/yellow (CMY) GMP-Certified Edible Ink Cartridge is
$130 (USD).
● Are the ink cartridges refillable?
The edible ink cartridges manufactured for our edible ink printers are designed
for one-time use only. Their single-use design is intended to make them the
most food-safe edible ink printer globally and the only NSF-approved edible ink
printer on the market.
FAQs for Edible Ink Cartridges
● What is the expiration date of these ink cartridges?
Our ink cartridges are best used within a year of their manufacture dates. The
best-by date is printed on the box. This is required by FDA regulation. Our ink
cartridges last for six months once opened. They are basically food coloring and
have no nutritional value or taste that can affect the overall product.
When you first open the Edible Ink Cartridge, PrintHub will begin tracking its
age. After the cartridge reaches six months of age, PrintHub will warn you that
the cartridge is expired and should be replaced. The ink doesn’t immediately
expire at precisely six months; you can continue printing for a few more days or
longer.
FAQs for Edible Ink Cartridges
● How many prints will I get per ink cartridge?
The cost per print will vary depending on the coverage of colors used in
your design and how many colors are used.
To find out the approximate number of prints per cartridge, we’d need a
high resolution .jpg of your actual design to run a test through the printer’s
software. For example, if you were printing a 3.5” cookie with a full-
coverage design, you can expect between 1,400 – 2,700 prints per
cartridge.
FAQs for Edible Ink Cartridges
● What certifications does the edible ink have?
These edible ink cartridges are manufactured and filled in cGMP-Certified
facilities. No other manufacturers' edible ink cartridges currently have cGMP
Certification.
● Do I have to buy my ink from Primera?
Eddie’s edible ink cartridges are specifically designed for Primera printers. You
won’t find them at brick-and-mortar retail stores or local merchants. However,
our online store and many others will have them in stock.
