How to become CISM Certified
                     HOW TO BECOME CISM 
CERTIFIED?
CISM Certification is an advanced certification 
that provides validation for individuals who have 
demonstrated they possess the knowledge and 
experience required to develop and manage an 
enterprise information security program. To become 
certified, applicants must successfully pass a 200-
question multiple-choice exam, 
which covers four content areas:
• Information security management
• Information risk management and compliance
• Information security program development and 
management
• Information security incident management 
CISM EXAM ELIGIBILITY 
CRITERIA
Candidates for the CISM certification must adhere to 
ISACA’s Code of Professional Ethics, and submit evidence of 
five years’ work experience in the field of information 
security. Work experience must be gained within the 10-
year period preceding the application date for certification 
or within five years from the date of initially passing exam. 
Three of the five years of work experience must be gained 
performing the role of an information security manager.
CISM EXAM
The CISM Exam is offered twice a year in the months of 
June and December every year. The CISM Exam consist 200 
multiple-choice questions and is a four hour duration exam. 
Candidates are tested on the grounds of four functional 
areas of information security.

CISM EXAM?
 Earning your CISM certification encompasses a great deal of 
different disciplines within the realm of information security, 
and achieving this certification will open up new avenues for 
career-minded security professionals that need to showcase 
their skills as an information security specialist. It is 
important for candidates to understand the question 
methodology of the CISM training as it is not simply a 
multiple choice exam with one correct answer per question. 
Instead, the exam has been constructed with some 
questions requiring a most likely or best answer.
