INTRODUCTION
There are some warning signs that can assist you in 
determining when you need a new timing belt, but it is 
crucial to remember that prevention is the key to optimal car 
maintenance, as there are no specific clues to prove a worn 
belt that is on the verge of snapping.
The five key signs to be aware of are listed below to help you 
determine if it's time to check and replace your timing belt.
1. Misfires in The Engine
Timing belts operate both the camshaft and the 
crankshaft via a system of pulleys. The teeth used for 
this are designed to grip and move smoothly, but if the 
timing belt begins to wear out, it may produce a 
repetitive clicking or ticking sound from inside the 
engine.
2. After Starting the Vehicle's 
Engine, There is Smoke
Belt wear and stretching harm the catalyst because the fuel 
is not completely burned in the chambers due to an 
incorrect mixture fuel composition. This means that any 
remaining fuel is directed to the exhaust system. If you hear 
a clicking noise when starting the engine and see black 
smoke coming from the exhaust pipe, this indicates an 
incorrect fuel composition, which could be caused by a 
variety of factors, including timing belt damage.
3. Difficulty in Getting Started
Because it is connected to the pulleys that drive the crankshaft, 
a worn timing belt will affect the starting speed of your engine. 
The belt can eventually slip on the camshaft drive, causing the 
engine cylinder to open and close at the incorrect time.
The stretching or wear of the timing belt causes it to skip one 
or more teeth, causing the engine ignition to be lengthened. 
Additionally, as previously stated, belt jumps or slips cause 
engine desynchronization.
4. The Appearance of The Belt
If we are inspecting our vehicle or going to the garage, the 
first sign that the belt is worn is its appearance. There are 
small cracks visible throughout the piece. The internal 
threads of the cracks can be seen when the cracks are 
enlarged. Another sign is the separation of small pieces or 
fragments of belt material, which will eventually fall inside 
the engine.
5. Voltage Drop
High elongation is another sign of advanced belt wear. 
When this happens, there is a loss of tension, which 
reduces the belt's deflection force. This will result in belt 
slipping or, worse, belt dropping during engine operation. 
Belt slippage or skipping causes the engine to be out of 
sync, which can result in a piston/cam collision and 
catastrophic engine failure.
