What is Search Intent? A Complete
Guide for Beginners - SoftRadix
SEO is the most effective way to increase your website
traffic. Gaining a high Google ranking will draw more
traffic to your website, which will increase sales and
repeat visitors. To increase traffic to your page, you must
optimize the content of your website for the appropriate
keywords. However, you should include search engine
optimization on your website to improve your chances of
ranking, persuading visitors to buy your products, signing
up for your newsletter, or even returning to your website.
Online searches are done with search intent, also known
as user, audience, or audience intent. It is the basis for
someone conducting a particular search. Everyone who
performs a search online is, after all, seeking
something. But is someone looking for a solution to a
problem they are facing? Do they have any plans to
visit a specific website? Or are they looking for
something to buy when they search online? These kinds
of searches are common in online user journeys, but
frequently they represent different stages.
There are various types of search intent for keywords.
We'll discuss the four most popular ones here:
Informational intent
Let's start with the informational intent. People looking for
information conduct a lot of online searches. This could be
information about educating children, information about SEO, you
name it. Information seekers have a specific query or desire to
learn more about a particular subject.
You should be aware that Google understands intent much more
than just displaying results that provide details about a particular
term. For instance, it is aware that people searching for [tomato
sauce] are probably looking for recipes rather than information on
the sauce's gastronomic past. It is acknowledged that the majority
of people who type [Mercury] are seeking the planet, not the
element. Google even recognizes that adding videos and images
can be helpful when searching for terms like "how to build a
feeder."
Navigational intent
Navigational intent is the name given to the second
category of search intent. People with this intent need to
visit a specific website. For instance, people who look up
[Facebook] online typically intend to visit the Facebook
website. So you need to make sure that your website can
be found when someone searches for your brand's name
online. Remember that ranking high for a navigational
term is mainly beneficial if your site is the site people are
looking for. A few years ago, we had a Google Analytics
plugin and ranked pretty well for the term [Google
Analytics]. However, it did not increase traffic to our
website. People are searching for [Google]. They specifically
were looking for the Google Analytics website and were
usually not interested in our plugin.
Transaction Intent
The third type of intent is transactional intent. Lots
of people buy stuff online and browse the web to find
the best deal. When someone is looking to make a
purchase right away, they are searching with
transactional intent. Usually, that means that they
already know exactly what they want to buy and just
want to get to that product page immediately.
Commercial Investigation
Some people have the intention of buying in the
(near) future and use the web to do their research.

people also have transactional intent but require
some more time and convincing. These types of
search intents are generally called commercial
investigative intents.
Keyword Intent
We can learn about user intent from the words
people use in their search queries. This also works
the other way around. By formulating keywords with
intent-specific words, you could increase your
chances of being seen by people with matching
search intent. What do we mean by intent-specific
words? Well, keywords with transactional intent
usually include the following words:
● Buy
● Deal
● Discount
● Product names
Another illustration: Words like these may appear in
informational searches, but they are not required to.
● Information
● How to
● Best way to
● Why
Wrapping Up
It's imperative to make sure that the content you write matches both
the search terms people use and the search intent of your audience.
Make sure your post or page is the most informative when people are
looking for information. Be the top result for a search of your
company name. Provide content that may help people get information
when they're still investigating their options. But if someone wants to
purchase one of your products, direct them to your sales pages. If
