History of the temple-
Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple is also known as Alamelu
mangapuram Temple because it is believed that Goddess
Lakshmi was born as Alamelu and married to Venkateshwara
Swami of Tirupati. She used to appear and give darshan to Lord
Venkateshwara on a lotus at the temple.
Alamelumangapuram has a meaning in each word like ala stands
for lotus and Mel means top. Manga denotes to the Goddess, and
Puram indicates the village or the town. There is a Sarovar in Sri
Padmavati temple which is known as Padmasoravaram. It is said
that the goddess gave darshan to Lord Venkateshwara in this
Sarovar on the lotus, having thousands of petals only during the
day of Sukla Paksha Panchami in Kartheeka Masam.
Millions of people visit this place to take a dip in its holy water,
especially during the Annual Padmavathi Brahmotsavams.
