The London Fashion Week was essentially cancelled as a result of Queen Elizabeth II's passing on September 8. Designers and the British Fashion Council spoke over the phone a week or two ago. The London fashion community came together in answer to that request to execute the events during the scheduled week in a manner that respected the condition of the country and the industry's preparation, which in many cases had already gone too far to reverse. As clearly stated by Jonathan Anderson, the well-known creator of JW Anderson and creative head of LVMH-owned Loewe, cancelling could have a severe impact on younger, smaller enterprises. The calendar of runway shows, events, and parties has been reduced in response to the monarch's passing; it begins today.
