A brief overview on Urethroplasty
URETHROPLASTY
URETHROPLASTY
An urethroplasty is a surgical procedure used to treat urethral strictures,
which are narrowings or obstructions in the urethra, the tube that
carries urine from the bladder to the outside. The procedure consists of
removing the affected portion of the urethra and reconstructing it with
healthy tissue from another part of the body or with synthetic tissue.
It takes approximately 2-4 hours to complete the procedure under general
or spinal anesthesia. An incision is made in the penis or scrotum, and the
affected area of the urethra is removed. Reconstruction of the urethra is
then performed using the healthy tissue or graft. In most cases, the patient
is able to return home the same day or the next day after surgery.
