ABOUT US 
Abu Dhabi Pottery was established in 1994 by 
Homa Vafaie Farley to share her love of 
pottery with others.
Since then countless students – adults and 
children, from all over the world – have been 
introduced to the techniques, and the 
enjoyment, of working with clay.
We offer pottery tuition for individuals, old & 
young, and groups of families, friends & 
colleagues. 
We offer a fun, friendly and safe environment 
that enables children to develop skills and 
release their creative potential, in a fully 
equipped professional studio.
 Glazing Workshops
 
This glaze making workshops are for beginner 
and intermediate potters, and it will help you 
learn the basics of glazing and decorating your 
pots.
 You will be introduced to simple glaze chemistry 
in an accessible way, learning about common 
glaze faults, and some techniques for getting a 
great glaze finish.
Our Glazing Workshops are a unique experience, 
whether you are a beginner looking to discover a 
new world, an intermediate potter seeking a 
focused time to create with a built-in mentor, or 
a master potter.
Abu Dhabi Pottery
At Abu Dhabi Pottery classes you will first learn hand-
building and then the basics of learning to make a pot 
on the potter’s wheel, or improving your current skills, 
also learning to throw larger, better pots, also learning 
all aspects of glazing etc.
At Abu Dhabi Pottery we tailor make the workshop to 
suit your level of skill and creativity.
This glaze making workshop will provide you with basic 
to advanced art of glazing.
A few specialised workshops are held throughout the 
year, concentrating on specific areas such as Throwing 
on the potter’s wheel, Hand building, Using Paper 
Clay, Raku, Glazing techniques.
ART OF GLAZING WORKSHOP
The glazing workshop includes detailed 
introduction into ceramic glazes and techniques. 
How to choose an appropriate glaze to clay type, 
how to plan glazing. Pouring, dipping and 
brushing techniques of glaze application, and 
decorating work with underglazes.
An in-depth course exploring experimental and 
sculptural glazing. Glaze is a fundamental part of 
the ceramics process, offering a huge range of 
colours, depth and texture. 
Across the workshop days, participants will be 
introduced to a range of techniques; slip, 
underglaze, smoke firings and high fired 
stoneware glazing to achieve different effects. 
This is a one week intensive glaze making course 
in glazing to introduce the various materials 
required to make your own glaze and the 
technical application of the glaze to the fired 
clay. 
Glaze is a fundamental process of ceramics and 
gives the clay surface a huge range of colour and 
depth.
You will learn the difference between glossy, 
satin and dry glazes, on glaze and underglaze 
and how to apply the glaze by dipping, pouring 
or spraying. The tutor will advise you on the 
uses of different glaze materials.
