❖ Durga Puja
In Bengal, Assam, and other eastern Indian regions, Durga Puja is a prominent 
Hindu festival that is historically observed for 10 days in the month of Ashvina 
(September–October), the seventh month of the Hindu calendar. The festival of 
Durga Puja honours the goddess Durga's triumph over the demon ruler 
Mahishasura. It starts on the same day as Navratri, a nine-night celebration of the 
divine feminine (shakti) that takes place in many northern and western regions.
❖ Navratri
Hinduism celebrates Navratri, or Sharad Navratri (Sanskrit for "Nine Nights"), as a 
significant holiday honouring the divine feminine. In the month of Ashvin, or 
Ashvina (in the Gregorian calendar, often September through October), Navratri 
lasts for nine days. On the tenth day, Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is 
frequently when it comes to an end. In some regions of India, Dussehra is 
celebrated as the festival's main event, essentially extending its duration from 
nine to ten days. 
Additionally, because Navratri is based on the lunar calendar, it might sometimes 
last eight days, with Dussehra falling on the ninth day. There are four related 
holidays known as Navratri that take place throughout the year. The most 
important event is Sharad Navratri, which occurs in early fall. It starts on the same 
day as Durga Puja, a 10-day celebration honouring the goddess Durga's victory 
that is especially cherished in the eastern states.
❖ Dussehra
Hindus celebrate Dussehra, also known as Dasara or Vijayadashami, as the victory 
of Rama, a Vishnu avatar, over the ten-headed demon king Ravana, who 
kidnapped Rama's bridge, Sita. The terms dasha ("ten") and hara ("defeat") in 
Sanskrit are the source of the festival's name. The Hindu holiday of Dussehra, 
which represents the triumph of good over evil, is observed on the tenth day of 
the seventh Hindu lunar month of Ashvina (September–October), also known as 
the "bright fortnight" (shukla paksha), which coincides with the full moon. The 
nine-day Navratri festival comes to an end on Dussehra, which also falls on the 
tenth day of the Durga Puja holiday. Many people start getting ready for Diwali, 
which comes 20 days following Dussehra.
❖ Sharad Purnima
One of the most significant Hindu holidays is Sharad Purnima. In the months of 
Ashwin (September/October), this celebration is held. Navanna Purnima, Ashwin 
Purnima, Kumara Purnima, and Kaumudi Purnima are some of Sharad Poornima's 
alternate names. The day is made especially happy and enjoyable by the brilliance 
of the full moon. In Sharad Poornima, the word "Sharad" refers to the "Sharad 
Ritu" (season) of the year. Sharad Purnima is also observed as a harvest festival in 
a number of Indian states.
Numerous followers worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Lakshmi on Sharad 
Poornima. Goddess Lakshmi is reported to go from place to place, asking Kojagiri, 
"Who is awake?" and bestowing blessings upon people who are discovered to be 
awake. As a result, individuals don't sleep this night and instead dedicate 
themselves to fasting, singing religious hymns, and praying for wealth during the 
entire day. Sharad Purnima falls on October 27, 2023, this year.
❖ Papankusha Ekadashi
Because of its exceptional significance in Sanatan Dharma, Ekadashi Tithi has 
been given the honorific title of Vratraj, which translates to "best of all the fasts," 
or "best of the fasts." As suggested by its name, Papankusha Ekadashi is the day 
after Dussehra in the Ashwin month of Shukla Paksha. On this day, it is honoured 
in India. This fortunate day will occur on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. One is 
absolved of all sins and receives the desired blessings by performing the Ekadashi 
rite exactly as prescribed.
