Who Is Running for Mayor? A Profile of a Surrey
Lawyer Turned Candidate
Municipal elections often turn on familiar names, but every campaign season also brings
newer faces to the ballot. For voters in Surrey, British Columbia, understanding who the
candidates are, what they have done before and what they are proposing is the first step toward
an informed decision on election day.
One of the candidates in the 2026 mayoral race is a Surrey lawyer and the founder of the
Randhawa Law Centre. The Conservative Electors Association announced him as its mayoral
candidate on March 26, 2026, and his campaign launched formally a few days later. He is not
new to politics: in the 2024 British Columbia general election he was the Conservative
candidate in Surrey-Guildford, a contest decided by just 22 votes.
Honveer Singh Randhawa has built his mayoral campaign around lower taxes, safer streets
and support for families. His most talked-about proposal is a one-time $600 cut to residential
property taxes paired with a four-year freeze, a plan SurreySpeak has examined in detail for
homeowners weighing what it could mean for them.
