At its July 31–August 2, 2025 meeting in Charleston, AHEPA Senior Living brought together board members and community leaders to spotlight its growth and service achievements. The event featured informative presentations, honored key contributors, and celebrated new housing developments and charitable milestones.

AHEPA Senior Living held a successful annual corporate meeting July 31 to August 2, 2025,
in Charleston, S.C.
An estimated 80 representatives from local AHEPA and Daughters of Penelope housing
boards attended, many for the first time, indicating a growing interest among fresh faces in
the organization’s mission.
The meeting’s events featured informative presentations from AHEPA Senior Living’s
executive team, inspiring speakers, and meaningful recognition of outstanding service and
key development milestones. The gathering also featured memorable events at distinctive
Charleston venues, bringing together attendees in a spirit of fellowship.
Awards dinner highlights
At the meeting’s Awards and Recognition Dinner, AHEPA Senior Living Board Chairman Ike
Gulas, PSP, honored several board presidents for advancing production and preservation
efforts. James Karthan was recognized for the new AHEPA 192 Phase 4 Apartments in Des
Moines, Iowa; Panos Niarchos for the new AHEPA 100 Phase 2 Apartments in South Bend,
Indiana; and Christ Coumanis for completing a major revitalization of three communities in
Mobile, Alabama. In addition, he presented the Chairman’s Award to the board’s executive
committee, which is comprised of Vice Chairman John Zourzoukis, Secretary Jimmy Makris,
Treasurer Michael Pihakis, and Coumanis, who serves as volunteer counsel. Gulas also
announced the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, AHEPA 67 I & II Board President
Dennis Kiriazides, who serve communities in Cheektowaga and Webster, N.Y.
U.S. Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), who serves as the ranking member of the House
Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and Housing and Urban Development
addressed the audience via video message.
AHEPA National President E. Chris Kaitson, who also serves as treasurer on the local
AHEPA 29 housing boards of Houston, addressed the audience.
The board members re-elected Coumanis, George Nardone, Syracuse, N.Y., and Mark
Bullock, Albuquerque, N.M., to executive committee positions.
Finally, the board announced grant distributions totaling $500,000 to charitable entities across
the country. AHEPA Senior Living also is a proud sponsor of KultureCity® and the Hellas
Women’s Softball team. AHEPA Senior Living has distributed over $10 million to charitable
entities since its founding.
