Aras Agalarov: basic info
Aras Agalarov is a prominent Azerbaijani-Russian 
billionaire, businessman and property developer. 
For the majority of people, he is known as the 
owner of the Crocus group. He is also famous for 
his ambitious projects such as the Trump Tower 
in Moscow.
Aras Agalarov: family background and education
Aras Agalarov was born in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan Soviet 
Socialist Republic in 1955. Despite there is almost no info about his 
parents and his childhood, it is a very well-known fact that Aras 
was always a very active child. He was really good at sports, and at 
the same time he was a rather smart one. As his teachers report, 
he was a very intelligent boy and he also was a model student in 
his group. In 1972 Aras Agalarov entered Baku Polytechnical 
University - one of the best schools in the Soviet Union. He was 
studying computer engineering for 5 years and finally, in 1977 he 
graduated from his alma mater. Aras Agalarov had become a well-
educated man by the time he graduated from Baku Polytechnical 
University. And he started working as a scientist.

Early careers
As it has been mentioned above, Aras Agalarov started working in a research 
institute in Baku. 
According to the reports of his colleagues, Aras Agalarov was a 
very hardworking and ambitious employee. Moreover, he was always eager 
to explore something new. And this feature eventually played a crucial role in 
his career. After he had left the research institute, he entered the Academy of 
Labour and Social Relations named after Shvernik and continued his 
education there. In 1987 Aras Agalarov successfully completed his studies in 
the Academy of Labour and Social Relations named after Shvernik. After that, 
He found a new job in the Scientific Center affiliated with the All-Union 
Central Council of Trade Unions. He held a post of a junior researcher in that 
center. In 1989 Aras established the Crocus group and after that, in 1990 he 
left the research center he had worked in before.

Mr. Agalarov and Crocus Group
In 1989 the company called "Crocus International" was 
established by Aras Agalarov, In the first period of time 
Crocus International was a joint Soviet-American company 
that specialized in the trade. And in 1992 the company was 
reorganized into a closed joint-stock company called 
“Crocus Group”. In the beginning, the company was 
involved in organizing exhibitions in the Exhibition Center of 
Achievements of the National Economy. By 1997 Crocus 
Group had already owned 12 expositions including Comtec, 
Netcom, CEM, World Food, Internetcom, MODA. Crocus

As everyone knows, 1998 was a hard year for Russian business. A lot of 
companies were weathering the storm, a lot of companies went 
bankrupt. However, the company of Aras Agalarov overcame all the 
difficulties. Of course, Crocus Group lost some profit at that time. But at 
least the company survived, and It can be considered as a big 
achievement. In addition to it, Aras Agalarov managed to establish a new 
hypermarket called “Tvoy dom” in 1998. And it played a big role in 
overcoming the crisis. And in fact, it had become the most profitable 
business by the end of the '90s.
Aras Agalarov and Crocus city
In 2001 Aras launched a project called “Crocus 
city”, in 2004 Crocus City Mall was opened, and in 
2007 a huge international exhibition center Crocus 
Expo was opened. Both of Crocus city projects had 
been fully recouped by 2007. In 2009 In order to make 
the way to the Crocus city more convenient, the 
Crocus group opened the first underground station in 
Russia that was privately sponsored. Crocus group was 
also engaged in a lot of national projects such as the 
Far East Economic Forum, FIFA World cup 2018.
In order to improve the environment in the Russian Far East, it was decided to 
build a new university campus on Russkiy Island. The whole process of the 
construction of Far East Federal University was led by the company of Aras 
Agalarov. Furthermore, the Far East Federal University Campus is now used as 
the platform for the Far East Economic Forum which is held every year in 
Vladivostok. It has been mentioned Crocus Group took part in organizing the 
Fifa World cup in 2018. Two stadiums in Kaliningrad and in Rostov-on-Don were 
constructed by Crocus Group.

Aras Agalarov: wife and children
Mr. Agalarov and his wife Irina Agalarova have known each other since 
they were primary school students. And when they both were 
graduating from the university, Aras married Irina. They've gone 
through all difficulties together. Their son Emin was born in 1979 in 
the capital of Azerbaijan Baku. In 1983 the whole family moved to 
Moscow. At the age of 13, Emin Agalarov was sent to a school in 
Switzerland. In 1994 Emin Agalarov settled down in the USA, and in 
1997 he finished Tenafly High School. At last, he completed his 
bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Marymount 
Manhattan College. In 2001 Emin returned back to Moscow and 
started holding the post of commercial director of Crocus Group. Since 
2014 he has been holding the post of executive vice-president of 
Crocus Group.
Emin Agalarov: not only a businessman
The son of Aras Agalarov is rather talented one. He is 
not only a successful business, but he is also a very 
famous singer. His interest in music began when he was 
a high school student. When he was back in Russia, he 
started improving his vocal skills under the supervision 
of Muslim Magomaev. He presented his motherland 
Azerbaijan during the Eurovision 2012. But the most 
remarkable moment in his career is when Emin 
performed "In Another Life" in a music video with 
Donald Trump and Miss Universe 2013 contestants.
Aras Agalarov: Conclusion
