A work permit is an official document issued to a foreigner as permission
to work in a certain country. When it comes to working permits, there is a
common misconception that Canada is the safest bet for Indian nationals.
However, if you are proactive and looking forward to doing a graduate
program from the same country you wish to work in, there are several
options Indians can explore in terms of good work opportunities in a
foreign country.
Some of the countries Indians can easily gain
employment
and work permits are:
Singapore
Any qualified and Skilled Indian citizen wishing to work in Singapore
can get a work permit provided he gets employment through an
appointed employment agent (EA) or employer. You can opt for this
route if you wish to come to Singapore as a skilled worker.
However, if you wish to gain employment after graduating from a Singapore
University, you can avail a Long-term Social Visit Pass (LTVP) which will allow
you to remain in Singapore for a year after your graduation and look for
employment opportunities.
France
If you wish to enter France as a skilled employee, you can take up their
long-stay visa equivalent to a residence permit (VLS-TS) or a residence
permit authorizing the holder to take up paid employment, like the
Talent Passport permit as well as the ‘Intra-company transfer’ residence
permit. These residence permits are equivalent to a work permit. No
additional steps are required after obtaining this permit.
However, in case you wish to study and then subsequently find work in
France after graduating from one of their universities, you’d be required to
obtain an Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour (APS - temporary resident
permit) valid for twelve months and non-renewable, while you seek
employment in France.
Germany
For a work visa in Germany, you need to possess a valid job offer
from their companies before entering the country. However, if you
wish to seek a job after coming to Germany, you’d be required to
apply for a Long-Term Residency Permit, which allows you to stay in
the country for six months and look for a job. If at the end of the
six months you have found a place of employment, you will be
given a Germany work visa or a Germany work permit and you will
be allowed to work and live there.
Ireland
If you wish to work in Ireland as a skilled worker, you’d be required to
obtain a Critical Skills Employment Permit which is issued for an initial
period of two years, after which it can normally be renewed indefinitely.
As an International student, Ireland also offers great employment
opportunities and allows the students to gain valuable professional
experience by applying for the Third Level Graduate Scheme which
allows graduates to remain in Ireland for up to 24 months after
completing their degree from an authorized Irish University.
Canada
Canada is considered to be the safest option by Indian citizens and with
good reason. With several schemes and equal opportunities to both the
citizens and immigrants, Canada offers great opportunities to obtain
work permits for both skilled employees and fresh graduates.
As a skilled worker looking for employment in Canada, you can gain
either an Employer specific work permit or an Open work permit both of
which will allow you to hold a job in the country.
Overview
As a fresh graduate from a Canadian university, you can apply for a
Post-graduate work permit whose duration would be determined as per
the duration of your program. If you have undertaken a 2-year program
in Canada, PGWP would allow you to stay and work in Canada for 3
years.
These are some of the options you can explore if you wish to seek
employment in foreign countries as an Indian National. However, if you
wish to gain more information about a specific country and its work visa
policies, you can dm me and I’d be happy to help you!
Hope this helped!
