• GPAI is an international and multi-stakeholder initiative to guide the
responsible development and use of AI.
• It is based on human rights, inclusion, diversity, innovation, and economic
growth.

• Bridge the gap between theory and practice on AI by supporting cutting-
edge research and applied activities on AI-related priorities.
• Such as looking at implementation of AI in societies in order to respond
and recover from the Covid-19 crisis

• Bring leading experts from industry, civil society, governments, and
academia to conduct research on AI.
• It will be focused on responsible AI, data governance, the future of work,
and innovation.

ORGANISATION
• GPAI will be supported by a Secretariat, to be hosted by Organization for
Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris.
• The OECD will also be a Permanent Observer to the GPAI’s governing
bodies.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
• It describes the action of machines accomplishing tasks that have
historically required human intelligence.
• It includes technologies like machine learning, pattern recognition, big
data, neural networks, self algorithms etc.

INDIA BECOMES FOUNDING MEMBER
• India has now entered the group of leading world economies, including
USA, UK etc to launch the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence.
• GPAI will conduct research and pilot projects on the responsible use of AI.

ROLE OF OECD
• Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will host
Secretariat of the new Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) in Paris.
• OECD will enable the GPAI to create a strong relationship between policy
development and technical discussion on AI.

HOW CAN IT HELP INDIA?
• India has very active in boosting AI Strategy by putting in action
committees and National AI.
• It will bring impact in the technology across various economic sectors like
agriculture, healthcare, education, manufacturing, finance etc.
