Introduction
• The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, along with Smart Cities Mission
and ITDP India are all set to launch the India Cycles 4 Change Challenge in order to
create a cycling-friendly atmosphere in Indian cities.

• COVID-19 provides an opportunity for cities to accept cycling and with COVID19 the
demand for cycling is growing.
• Thanks to lock down and vehicle traffic restrictions, Bicycle uses are on the rise.

• Cities are developing their cycling networks around the world.
• Cycling is a green way of economic regeneration, as it can provide access to
employment , education, leisure, and it is for everyone.

Attracting Reward
• India Cycles 4 Change Challenge is to inspire Indian cities in the wake of COVID-19
to implement rapid cycle friendly interventions in collaboration with their citizens
and expert assistance. The top 10 winning cities will each receive Rs. 1 crore.

Effect in Guwahati
• To help Guwahati achieve this goal, the Green Lane Foundation conducted a small
survey with support from Guwahati's Bicycle Mayor and Pedal for a Change to find
out the best routes in Guwahati where bicycle lanes can be proposed.
