INTRODUCTION
During his keynote speech at India Telecom Congress 2020 on Tuesday, Reliance
Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani announced that Jio
5G will be rolled out in India in the second half of 2021.

PARTNERSHIP WITH GOOGLE
In addition to introducing 5G in the region, in partnership with Google, Jio is
creating an inexpensive Android phone that is likely to debut in the coming
months.
Jio to announce its entry-level 4G Android smartphone in addition to their 5G
plans.
The new model is anticipated to launch with a price tag of around Rs. 4,000
sometime in the first quarter of next year.

announced the development of its 5G Radio Access Network (RAN), which will

Ambani urged the government to take policy measures to usher in inexpensive
smartphones for the underprivileged people already on a 2G network during his
speech at the India Telecom Congress.

INVESTORS
Over the past few months, Jio Platforms, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries that owns the Jio
network, has drawn funding from different global firms.
Google, Twitter, Intel Capital, Qualcomm Ventures, and Silver Lake Partners, among others are part
of the roster of investors.
By selling its 32.97% stake, it earned as much as Rs. 152,056 crores. Such investments help the
company to extend its digital footprint in the region.
