INTRODUCTION
 Qualcomm has unveiled its new ultrasonic 
fingerprint sensor, which is much faster and has 
a larger scanning area. The 3D Sonic Sensor 
Gen 2 from Qualcomm is expected to make an 
appearance in early 2021.

 The new sensor may be used in upcoming 
rollable and foldable phones with edge-to-edge 
OLED displays as well with an increased 
thickness of 0.2mm.

 Qualcomm has not revealed new Android 
phones that will come with recent technologies, 
but because of the pandemic of Covid-19 where 
humans must wear face masks to prevent

3D SONIC SENSOR
 Qualcomm’s first-generation ultrasonic sensor  
the 3D Sonic Sensor made its debut in the 
Galaxy S10 lineup of phones in 2018. 
 At the time, nearly every other in-display reader 
used an optical scanner, which was said to be 
slower and less reliable than the new ultrasonic 
one.

 The company didn't provide a concrete launch 
date. 
 But nonetheless, it did mention that its first-
generation 3D Sonic Sensors were featured on 
flagship smartphones including the Samsung
