Introduction
• Vyommitra (Vyom Mitra; lit. Space companion) is
a female spacefaring humanoid robot being
created by the Indian Space Research
Organization to work on-board the Gaganyaan, a
ran orbital shuttle.

Launch Date
• Vyommitra was first disclosed on 22
January 2020 at the Human Spaceflight and
Exploration symposium in Bengaluru.

Naming Purpose
• Vyommitra, a blend of two Sanskrit words
Vyoma (Space) and Mitra (Friend), shocked
everybody when she acquainted herself
with the crowd.

Role
• The robot can also be a companion and
converse with the astronauts, recognize
them and can also respond to their queries.

What ISRO is stating?
• ISRO executive K Sivan told the half humanoid will
mimic human capacities in space and

prototype of humanoid will go as a trial before
Gaganyaan goes with astronauts"

How will it fly???
Chairman Sivan said in front of the dispatch of
India's lady human spaceflight adventure
'Gaganyaan' in December 2021, ISRO will embrace
two unmanned missions in December 2020 and June
2021 and 'Vyommitra' will fly in them.
