Birth of the Constitution
• The Constitution was officially adopted on January 
26, 1950.
• The chosen date aligns with India's declaration of full 
freedom from British rule in 1929.
• Republic Day is now celebrated as a commitment to 
the principles outlined in the Constitution.
The First Republic Day Celebration
• The inaugural celebration in 1950 was marked by President 
Rajendra Prasad hoisting the flag.
• The grand parade in New Delhi showcased India's rich cultural 
diversity.
