Watering
• Water in late evening or early 
morning.
• Check your lawn's water needs.

Prevent Weeds Before They Come Up
Stop weeds from gaining a roothold in your lawn before 
they even germinate by using a pre-emergent herbicide.
Use a pre-emergent early in the spring.
And when using lawn treatments or lawn care products, 
always follow package directions regarding proper 
clothing, protective equipment, application procedures and 
safety precautions.
Mow High & Frequently
Mowing your lawn too short may seem like a time saver, but this can damage 
your grass as well as allow weeds to set root. Keeping your lawn a bit taller 
results in healthier grass. The general rule of thumb is: Never cut off more 
than a third of the grass blade.
• Mow when the lawn is cool and dry.
• Remove no more than ⅓ of the grass blade.
• Leave grass clippings on the lawn.
• Sharpen mower blades regularly.
• Cut the grass short at the end of the growing season.
Feed Fertilizers To Your Lawn
Nitrogen is the most important nutrient. Look for a mix of fast- and slow-
release fertilizers that will green up your lawn quickly, and feed it over 
time.  But If you put too much nitrogen on your lawn, you'll burn it. Read 
the label and follow the application directions.
• Choose a mixed slow release / fast release fertilizer.
• Find a nitrogen-heavy fertilizer.
• Choose an organic fertilizer if possible.
• Decide on a fertilizer plan.
• Measure how much fertilizer to use.
• Operate the fertilizer spreader.
Additional Upkeep & Troubleshooting
• Aerate your yard once or twice a year.
• Remove excessive thatch.
• Prevent future thatch buildup.
• Prevent surface runoff. 
• Always Shake water droplets from grass surface.
• Improve poor grass in shady areas.
• Care for lawns in winter.
