INTRODUCTION
The combination of two different words, i.e., group
and discussion, are formed as group discussion.
Here, 'group' means a number of people put
together or gathered together considered as a
team/unit. And 'discussion' refers to examine any
particular topic or some subject thoroughly to reach
a conclusion. Together, it is called Group discussion,
which means exchanging ideas by participating as a
group on a specific topic or subject. It is totally
based on expressing their ideas and sharing them
with a group. Many best international schools are
encouraging group discussion among students.
Group discussion on study topics plays a major role
in schools because discussing different topics with
friends and classmates helps them
learning more actively. In a group discussion,
students share their thoughts and ideas about a
particular topic. By doing this, they all learn
something new from others. Teachers should
introduce new different methods of learning among
students, to make their learning process more
active. Each different methods of learning have
their pros and cons. Hence, if many students
discuss a topic that has already taught by the
teacher, it will help them to come across the
learning acquired by different methods of learning.
Increases students’ interests and
engagement
The mixture of Discourses and
discussions can really facilitate the
students to stay focus. When they
express ideas and answers, they get
more different perspectives on the
subject or topic. The perfect answers
can get the students to think
profoundly and make connections to
those answers.
Promotes Preparation
The best international schools are
making group discussions as a part of
the timetable to make it more
effective. It is because, when the
teacher engages students in a
classroom discussion regularly, then
students are more likely to come to
class with full preparation.
Develops Students’ Speaking Skills
Many students are afraid to talk in
public and in groups. To get rid of it
the school is the best place for them.
Teachers prepare students to speak
confidently in front of their class
members and group discussion gives
them opportunities to speak up.
When the teacher promotes group
discussion in students, it will help the
students to face real-world settings.
Creates the New Classroom
Environment
Most of the students get boring
during class lectures, so group
discussion will help to stay focus and
learn. It creates a new
classroom environment and helps the
students to be more attentive during
the lectures and discussion time.
Build confidence in Students
Group discussion helps the students to
build confidence in them. When they
discuss what they have been studied with
others, it helps them eliminate these
ambiguities about what they have
learned. Listening to supporting ideas
helps the students to rectify their ideas
and develop confidence in them. That’s
why many international schools consider
group discussion as a mandatory one.
Provide the Feedback
As a teacher, you should give them
feedback about the subject, topic,
and student’s involvement. In case if
the students couldn’t find the correct
answer, then the teacher should help
them by explaining it. It helps the
students to participate actively in the
group discussion and understand the
information clearly.
