Is it your first day as a Spanish teacher at a school? Aren't you a certified trainer? Need
help figuring out what to do? This blog by Celas Maya Spanish school will guide you on
the tips to make it the best spanish learning programs of all time. Even if you have a
lifetime of teaching experience, if you're anything like me, you probably experience
what I like to refer to as the FDOCNBS, or First-Day-of-Class Nervous Breakdown
Syndrome: You attempt to convince yourself that you're genuinely ill when you wake up
sweaty and stressed. However, you must attend on the first day. You, therefore, drink a
gallon of chamomile tea while hoping for the best.
We can relate to your suffering, and all of us have been there. However, it is avoidable!
How? Here are some pointers for your first lesson with new learners:
The goal of the alphabet lesson: the pronunciation of each letter in the Spanish
alphabet should be taught to the pupils individually and in words.
Plan of study: Give your pupils a worksheet printed with the alphabet, and it should
contain a few sample sentences for each letter. Ask the class to repeat after you as a
group as you recite each letter aloud. Going through the complete alphabet without
explaining challenging sounds like c, g, or ll would be best.
After introducing the entire alphabet, break down each challenging Spanish letter and
sound.
Please give them many examples, and have them collectively repeat each phrase. Ask
each person to read a word from the prepared word list once familiar with all the letters
and can pronounce them correctly. You can randomly select a student and a word each
time, or you can go by the arrangement of the students' seats and the alphabetical
sequence of the list of words.
Resources:
● Many tools can be used for teaching the alphabet- You can also use a fantastic
PowerPoint presentation to introduce the example words.
● Show them Spanish alphabet rhymes so that they sing along and enjoy the new
language.
● You can use an alphabet lesson and include interesting videos, flashcards, and
tests to keep things interesting. For YouTube, we always recommend two videos
to students: Sugar Astronaut by Spanish Made Easy and the Spanish letters by
Butterfly Spanish.
