JAPANESE COMPANY TO 

START PAYING SALARIES  

IN BITCOIN


Japan’s web hosting company GMO 

Internet is set to begin paying part of their 

employees’ salaries in Bitcoin from 

February 2018. 

Company spokeswoman Harumi Ishii said 

- “Employees can receive salaries in 

bitcoin if they want to. We hope to 

improve our own literacy of virtual 

currency by actually using it,”


The company headquarter is in Tokyo, operates 

60 companies in 10 countries. This offer will be 

open for around 4,000 employees of the GMO 

group in Japan.

GMO  started a Bitcoin trading and 

exchange business in May and they 

are  planning to launch a new 

cryptocurrency mining operation 

next year.


Bitcoin prices have increased worldwide

this year, from less than $1,000 in Januar

to $17,000 in December 2017.
