Salt and water gargle
Effectively soothing a scratchy throat, salt and water gargle is one of
the most preferred home remedies. All you need to do is add 1/4 to
1/2 teaspoon of salt to 8 ounces of warm water and gargle, which does
wonders in kicking off the irritation. However, note that this cure is not
recommended for children under age 6 as they aren’t really good at
gargling.
Honey
One of the most time-honoured remedy for sore throat, honey plays a
significant role in relieving coughs more effectively than any other
cough suppressant. Mixing 2 teaspoons of honey with herbal tea or
warm water and lemon does wonders in helping you get rid of the
nagging cough. While honey does all the soothing, the lemon juice
helps with congestion. Thus, honey makes for an ideal addition to your
homemade cough medicine.
Bromelain
Did you know that bromelain, an enzyme found only in the stem and
fruit of pineapples, plays an ideal role in suppressing coughs as well as
loosening the mucus in your throat? Thus, eating pineapple 3 times a
day is an ideal remedy for getting rid of cough.
Thyme
Ideal for respiratory illnesses, thyme plays a significant role in helping
you relieve cough as well as short-term bronchitis. Thanks to its
flavonoids content, thyme does wonders in relaxing your throat
muscles that are involved in coughing. You can consume thyme in a
number of ways – you can make thyme tea at home by adding 2
teaspoons of crushed thyme leaves to 1 cup of boiling water, cover the
cup, steep for 10 minutes and then strain carefully.
