EXPECTORANTS AND MUCOLYTICS
Opposite to cough suppressants, expectorants are used for wet coughs.
They lessen the mucus in the air - thereby making it easy to make the
mucus bigger and clear the throat. It can also be a cough syrup and
cough medicine.
DECONGESTANTS
Decongestants are mainly used during runny nose and cough
treatment, which is done by mucus dripping back into the throat. They
can also be cleared up when the nose is blocked or a cough that keeps
you awake for most of the night.
ANTIHISTAMINES
Antihistamines are anti-allergy medicines, and will clear up the throat
only when the throat is affected by allergic reactions such as cough,
watery eyes and sneezing. There are various antihistamines cough
syrups available in the market.
COMBINATION MEDICINES
Sometimes, only a cough syrup would not be sufficient to put an end to
the throat pain or cough. As a result, a pain reliever could be
accompanied by cough syrup and that will help you clear the throat.
