Which Sunscreen type is best - Gel, Spray, or 
Lotion
The power of the sun is now increasing again, most people are happy 
about it. But very few people enjoy applying sunscreen. What do you 
advice?
Everyone must find out for themselves which sun protection product they 
would like to apply to their sensitive skin. Some find lotions more pleasant to 
put on, others prefer creams or gels. My advice is to get some samples and 
try them out first. The best sun protection product is the one that the 
consumer likes to apply to the skin. But the most popular one is true 
using gel based sunscreen, you can try it first.
Are there any products that you would not use? 
I advise against sprays. When spraying, a large proportion of the 
environment is lost. For me, the cost-benefit analysis is wrong with the 
sprays.
What does the sun protection 
factor mean for sun creams?
● The sun protection factor indicates how much 
longer you can stay in the sun without getting 
sunburned. The sun protection factor 30 
increases this time by 30 times.
● With a very light skin type, the body's own 
protection lasts only 10 minutes in strong sun. 
After that, the skin gets sunburn.
● If you apply broad spectrum Sunscreen Gel SPF 
50, you can stay in the sun 50 times longer, i.e. a 
full 500 minutes.
Sunscreen: How reliable is the UV rays sun 
protection factor?
You should be careful with the sun protection factor (What is SPF). There 
are a few factors that affect the promised time.
● To really extend protection by 20, 30, 40, or even 50 times, you need to 
apply the recommended amount as well. An adult needs more than five 
tablespoons of sunscreen for the entire body. After applying this 
amount of cream, you will initially be completely white.
● If you start to sweat, wear clothes in between, or even go swimming, 
some of the sunscreens will be worn off your body. If you do not re-
apply the cream, the promised protection will not be maintained.
● For this reason, you should always calculate with half the sun 
protection factor. With a sun protection factor of 30, you will only get 
sunburn after 15 times the time - compared to the condition that is not 
covered with cream.

What else should I watch out for? 
The SPF indicates protection against UV-B radiation, which is responsible 
for sunburn. UV-A protection is just as important. It reduces the skin 
aging process. Products with sufficient UV-A protection are marked with a 
black logo.
And surely the protective agent should also be waterproof? 
I find the predicate “waterproof” a bit misleading. The laboratory 
conditions under which the water resistance is tested are not very 
realistic. 
It must be taken into account that you dry yourself off after bathing, wipe 
yourself with a sweat cloth while working, for example, and so the sun 
protection is lost. To maintain the selected sun protection, you have to 
apply lotion several times and that is sufficient.
How do you properly apply the cream? 
I recommend moisturizing yourself twice 30 minutes before sun 
exposure, with a little break in between. This ensures that a 
sufficiently thick layer is applied to the skin. 
Two milligrams of Sunscreen Gel SPF 50 should be distributed 
per square centimeter. That is a good 30 grams on a grown 
man's body, and spots that were forgotten the first time come 
into play the second time.
What do you think of the argument that too much 
sunscreen prevents vitamin D from building up in the skin? 
No, that is not correct. No sunscreen completely blocks the 
entry of radiation into the skin. The vitamin D deficits in the 
population are not due to sun protection products but to age. 
Because natural production decreases with increasing age.
