A motor grader has several components that work together to achieve controlled surface grading. The rear-mounted engine provides power, while the articulated frame allows the machine to manoeuvre. The mouldboard is the main working blade, supported by the circle and drawbar. Tandem rear drive helps distribute weight and improve traction, while leaning front wheels help resist side thrust when the blade is angled. A scarifier or ripper can also break hard ground before grading.
