INTRODUCTION
A backup of your computer is the best strategy you can use
against hardware failure, apps, and upgrade issues, as well
as malware attacks that can potentially damage an
installation and corrupt your files.

FULL BACKUP
If you're using Windows 10, there are different methods you can
use to create a backup.
However, if you don't want to use manual methods and don't
want to install third-party tools, you can always create a full
backup using the legacy built-in System Image Backup tool.

STEPS TO CREATE A BACKUP SYSTEM IMAGE
• Open the Control Panel
• Click System and Security
• Click Backup and Restore (Windows 7)

CREATE A SYSTEM IMAGE
• Click Create a system image in the left panel
• You have options for where you want to save the backup
image: external hard drive or DVDs. I suggest the former,
even if your computer has a DVD-RW drive, so connect your
external drive to your PC, select On a hard disk and click Next.

SYSTEM REPAIR
• Click the Start backup button.
• After the system image is created, you'll be asked if you want
to create a system repair disc.
• This puts your image on a CD or DVD, which you can use to
access the system image you created if your PC won't boot.

may have selected.

SHADOW COPY FEATURE
• When starting a full backup on Windows 10, you
can continue to work during the process because
the tool uses the Shadow Copy feature that
enables the ability to backup files even if they're
open and apps are running.

EXTERNAL DRIVE
• After the process has completed, you can
disconnect the external drive to store it in a safe
place.
