RISE IN CASES CONTINUE
India continued to witness a rise in its COVID-19
tally on Monday as it recorded the highest ever
spike of 6977 cases and 154 deaths in the last 24
hours. The total number of cases in the country
now at 1,38,845 and counting.

DOMESTIC FLIGHTS RESUME
Domestic passenger flights resumed in India after a
gap of two months and the country will see around
600 services on 25th May. The Delhi airport saw its
first departure to Pune while Mumbai airport's first
departure to Patna.

STIMULUS PACKAGE
Over five consecutive days of interaction with the
country's financial media, FM Nirmala Sitharaman
provided the break-up of PM Modi's Rs 20 lakh
crore COVID-19 stimulus for India.

10% OF GDP
At as much as 10% of GDP, the package did not
appear to leave any major sphere untouched as
Modi brought out the fiscal artillery to complement
RBI's monetary ballast spread over the past few
weeks to help the economy.

PM’S ANNOUNCEMENT
In his speech, Modi said his package would focus
on land, labour, liquidity and laws, and would deal
with such sectors as cottage industries, MSMEs, the
working class, middle class and industry.

ATMNIRBHAR BHARAT ABHIYAAN
Called as Atmnirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, this COVID-
19 relief package puts bold reforms at the heart of
Modi's stated plan to make India self-reliant so that
any other crisis that may emerge in future could
be efficiently tackled.

BIG BOOST FOR MSMES
Focusing on empowering the poor, labourers and
migrant workers, both in the organized and
unorganized sectors, some of the moves made are
collateral free loan of Rs 3 lakh crores for MSMEs, a
move that'll enable 45 lakh units to restart work
and save jobs.

FREE FOOD FOR MIGRANTS
For those migrants who don't have NFSA cards or
state cards, 5 kg of wheat or rice per person and
one kg chana per family per month for next two
months to be provided. This will entail Rs 3,500
crore and is likely to benefit around 8 crore
migrants.

REPORT CARD
The Centre plans to hire an agency to document
all measures taken by ministries in the fight
against coronavirus and also the lessons learnt
during the pandemic. The collected data will serve
as ‘ready reckoner’ for similar calamities in future.
