HISTORY OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT (SIKANDAR) ALEXANDER THE GREAT Alexander III of Macedon, commonly known as Alexander the Great was a king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon from 336 to 323 BC. He had created one of the largest empires in ancient world during his reign. wikipedia.com BIRTH Born to the father King Philip II of Macedon and his fourth wife Olympias at Pella, the capital of Macedon kingdom in 356 BC. His birth was considered to be auspicious and that a superhuman was born. ancientpages.com EARLY LIFE Alexander was raised by a nurse, Lanike and was later tutored by Leonidas, a relative of his mother. He was raised just like other noble Macedonian youth. ancientpages.com EDUCATION When Alexander was 13 years old, his father Philip chose Aristotle and provided the Temple of the Nymphs at Mieza as his classroom. In return, Philip had to build Aristotle’s hometown which was destroyed by Philip years ago. ancientpages.com KING OF MACEDON  In 336 BC, at the wedding ceremony of his daughter, Philip was assassinated by the captain of his bodyguards, Pausanias. Alexander was proclaimed as the king on spot, by the nobles and army. CONSOLIDATING POWER Alexander began his reign by eliminating all his potential rivals to the throne, which includes his cousins and other princes of Macedon. historyhit.com CONQUEST After gaining power in and around Macedon, Alexander began the great conquest of the Persian Empire as he conquered The Levant, Syria, Egypt, Babylonia and finally Persia. smithsonian.com INDIAN CONQUEST After conquering Persia, Alexander set out to conquer the Indian subcontinent, which the Greeks thought was the last part of the world. His army revolted midway through to India, forcing him to retreat. ancientorigins.com DEATH AND SUCCESSION  In 323 BC, Alexander died at the palace of Nebuchadnezzar II, in Babylon at the age of 32, due to a fever and agony. His death followed several conspiracy theories relating to how he may have died.
