INDIA'S FIRST MULTI-MODAL LOGISTICS PARK IN ASSAM INTRODUCTIO UnionN minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone of the country’s first multimodal logistics park (MMLP) at Jogighopa in Assam. On the other hand, it is just 8 percentage in other major economies. The average cost to import or export a container in India is 72 % higher than that of China stop. Source: The Truepicture 3 Definition The Government of India defines multi modal Logistic Park as a freight handling facility encompassing a minimum area of hundred acres. It shall hold various Modes of transport access and comprise of specialised storage solutions, mechanised warehouses, facilities for mechanism material handling, bulk and break-bulk cargo terminals and intermodal transfer container terminals. Source: gktoday.in 4 ESTIMATION To be constructed at an estimated cost of R 693 crore, the park which will have connectivity through air, water, road and railways is expected to boost local and regional trade and create more than 20 lakh job opportunities. Source: hindustantimes.com 5 MULTIMODAL LOGISTICS PARK (MMLP) This park will be of international quality and will provide nearly 20 lakh direct and indirect jobs and will be the growth engine for Assam. Government is planning to set up 35 MMLPs across the country. The one in Assam is the first among them. Source: hindustantimes.com 6 CONNECTIVITY The park spread across 317 acres in Bongaigaon district of lower Assam will have direct connectivity with National Highway 17, the proposed Jogighopa waterway terminal on Brahmaputra, the newly constructed Rupsi and Guwahati airports as well as the main railway route.
