SPACEX LAUNCHES ITS

MISSION
INTRODUCTION
• The Hawthorne, California-based aerospace
company aims to launch its 13th Starlink
mission at 1:57 p.m. Eastern time from
Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space
Center in Florida.

• Space Exploration Technologies Corp. is an
American aerospace manufacturer and
space transportation services company
headquartered in Hawthorne, California.
• It was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk with
the goal of reducing space transportation
costs to enable the colonization of Mars.

FALCON 9 ROCKET
• The Falcon 9 rocket will carry 60 more
satellites into orbit, bringing the
constellation to about 750 satellites (minus
about 30 that have been deorbited since
the program started in May 2019).

ANASIS-II MISSION
• The launch marks the third mission for the
Falcon 9's first stage, which previously
supported Crew Dragon’s first flight to the
International Space Station with NASA
astronauts onboard and the ANASIS-II
mission.

JUST READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
• About eight minutes after liftoff, SpaceX
will attempt to recover the first stage once
again on the "Just Read the Instructions"
drone ship stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.
• In addition, one of the rocket's fairing
halves previously supported two Starlink
launches.

SATELLITE DEPLOYMENT
• Starlink is meant to be a key source of
income for SpaceX by providing global
broadband internet service.
• The company said it is targeting service to
the northern United States and Canada this
year, then aims to rapidly expand to near-
global coverage of the populated world by
2021.

• A private beta test of the high-speed

• The rapid ramp-up comes amid opposition
to the project, which is rapidly filling the

STARLINK SATELLITES
In June, SpaceX launched a batch of Starlink
satellites including one with a deployable
visor to block sunlight from hitting the
brightest spots of the spacecraft.
A Starlink deployment on Aug. 7 marked the
first time all of the satellites onboard had
these sun visors.

MAJOR PLAYER ON THE SPACE
COAST
SpaceX has a major presence in Brevard
County that's growing.
The company, launches from Cape Canaveral
as part of its Starlink program and in service
of NASA's Commercial Crew program to put
astronauts on the International Space
Station.

Space Force contract to become one of the
Department of Defense's top launch
partners.
