Virtual Classroom vs. Traditional Classroom
Virtual & Traditional Classrooms
• Transitioning to the virtual classroom of an online college course
can be a bit of an adjustment. Students may wonder what to
expect in a virtual learning environment, including how they will
communicate with instructors and fellow students

Similarities
• In many ways, virtual classrooms are similar to
traditional ones. After all, the goal of online classes is the
same as that of traditional courses: for students to
develop their knowledge in the subject area and to earn
passing grades that illustrate their level of knowledge.

Flexibility
• Virtual classrooms offer incomparable convenience
and flexibility. You can access a virtual classroom
from home, office, internet café or any other place
which has an internet connection.

Social interaction
• Virtual classrooms offer audio, video and text interaction.
Students can ask questions verbally or by using text
interaction when the lectures are going on. Instead of
interrupting the presenter each time, students use the
chat window to type in their comments or questions.

Record classes
• Another big advantage of the virtual classroom is the ability to
record the class as it happens, including presenters’ audio and
video inputs. These recordings become a great learning tool for the
students and are much more effective in communicating what
happened in the class than simple class notes or the presentation.

Disadvantages
• While the virtual classroom is a great learning tool, it has
some disadvantages too. One needs a fast internet
connection to have a smooth experience. Video and
screen sharing utilities consume a lot of bandwidth.

Accessibility
• Virtual classrooms can be accessed by anyone and
anywhere in the world. One of the main advantages
are that students in remote areas too can get access
to lectures from the top faculty.

Cost-effective
• Unlike traditional classrooms which requires substantial
amount of money for infrastructure, furniture etc., virtual
classrooms require only a good internet connection.

Learning resources
• Usually, for traditional learning, books are required
which can be expensive and also heavy to carry. E-books
can be downloaded for free and they only require small
storage spaces.
