IVF, or in vitro fertilization, is a multi-stage process that helps individuals or couples with 
fertility issues conceive a child. Different Stages of IVF Treatment is as follows – 
1. Ovarian Stimulation: The first stage of IVF involves stimulating the ovaries to produce 
multiple mature eggs. Usually, fertility medications such as gonadotropins are 
administered to promote the development of multiple follicles in the ovaries. This 
step is closely monitored through ultrasound scans and hormone level measurements.
2.  Egg Retrieval: Once the eggs have matured, a minor surgical procedure known as egg 
retrieval is performed. Using ultrasound guidance, a thin needle is inserted into the 
ovaries through the vaginal wall to retrieve the eggs. Sedation or anesthesia is usually 
given to minimize discomfort.

3. Sperm Collection: On the same day as the egg retrieval, the male partner or a sperm 
donor provides a semen sample. The sample is then processed in the laboratory to isolate 
the healthiest and most motile sperm.
4. Fertilization:  In this stage, the retrieved eggs are mixed with the processed sperm in a 
laboratory dish or a specialized culture medium.
5. Embryo Culture: After fertilization, the embryos are cultured in a laboratory for a few 
days to allow for development. The embryos are typically kept in a controlled 
environment that mimics the conditions in the uterus.

6. Embryo Transfer: Once the embryos have reached a suitable stage of development, 
usually between 3 to 6 days after fertilization, they are transferred into the woman's 
uterus. The procedure is typically performed using a thin catheter that is inserted through 
the cervix.
7. Luteal Phase Support: Following the embryo transfer, hormonal medications such as 
progesterone may be prescribed to support the development of the uterine lining and 
increase the chances of successful implantation.
 
The stages of IVF fertility treatment may differ slightly depending on the clinic and the 
specific treatment plan designed for each patient.
