WHAT IS 
DMD?
DMD is a genetic disorder characterized by 
progressive muscle degeneration and 
weakness, primarily affecting boys. Despite 
being relatively rare, with an incidence of 
approximately 1 in 5,000 male births, its 
impact is profound, significantly reducing life 
expectancy and quality of life. Historically, 
treatment options have been limited, focusing 
primarily on managing symptoms rather than 
addressing the underlying cause. However, 
recent years have witnessed remarkable 
progress in understanding the molecular 
mechanisms underlying DMD, paving the way 
for novel therapeutic approaches.
