the masses which had never happened before. The cultured Japanese 
Akoya Pearl garnered immense popularity in the US during the late 1940s 
as World War Second was about to end.

Initially farmed only in Japan, the process of culturing the saltwater Akoya 
pearl also spread to other Asian countries where the Pinctada Fucata oyster 
can also be found. Countries that cultivate Akoya pearls are Japan, China 
and Vietnam.
