Career Advice From Women in the Marketing
Industry
Carine Visagie, Head of Marketing and Strategy
“My philosophy is always to keep learning and moving. You might not find
the perfect job right at the start, but learn what you can and then, when
you start feeling that you’re stagnating, look for the next opportunity.
“As long as you keep learning and work on improving your skills, you’re
heading in the right direction. After a few years, you’ll start seeing how
every opportunity (even the frustrating ones) helped to shape your
experience.
“It’s also critical to do what you enjoy and stick to work environments
aligned with your values. Every job will have good and bad days, but you’ll
survive the bad ones if you believe in what you’re doing.”

Rodith Gabas, Project Manager
“You have to be passionate about what you are doing and always be open to
learning new things. Tech and Marketing are the future of all businesses, so
you should remain open to upskilling innovative ways to help your
business/client grow.”

Bianca Tolentino, Sales Operations Analyst
“My career advice to young women who, like myself, are new to the tech and
marketing field is to prioritise building your skills and knowledge through
education, training, and hands-on experience.
“I personally invested time in building my skills and knowledge through various
online courses and workshops. Seeking out mentorship and guidance from
experienced professionals in the industry can also be incredibly valuable, as
they can provide advice and support as you navigate your new career.
“Also, don’t be afraid to take risks, step out of your comfort zone, be open to new
opportunities, and be proactive in seeking new challenges and experiences.
“Trust your abilities and instincts, and don’t let anyone make you doubt yourself.”

Nirvana Peters, Content Editor
My career tip is to speak up. Don’t be afraid to voice those thoughts that
deserve to be heard. The validation of seeing heads nodding in
agreement or tilting in consideration of your contribution undoubtedly
supersedes the risk of saying something incorrectly. Diverse opinions
are invaluable.
‘Now’s the time to put yourself out there. Show that you’re a powerful
team member who is an innovative resource of fresh ideas and
unparalleled enthusiasm.”

Kate Hanly, Operations Manager
“My advice for any young women wanting to pave their way and advance
in the tech and marketing industry is to take on as many new challenges
as often as you can.
“I also advise anyone in this field to be open to change. It’s a constantly
evolving field; the quicker you adapt, the more you progress.”
