1. File Block Settings:
In case, file block settings is enabled in your device then you will not be

Then the Word Options or Excel Options window will open. Here, you 
have to select Trust Center which is in the left side of the screen. After 
this, you should select Trust Center Settings. Then you will see the Trust
Center window will open. Now, you have to select File Blocking Settings
which is in the left side. You just have to ensure that the file type which 
you want to open is not selected in the Open column. Then you have to
select any checked boxes just to clear them. Here, you should select OK 
button to apply the changes. Then you have to close the windows to 
get back to Word or Excel and try to open the file.
2. Repair a Damaged File
In case, the file is corrupted, then you wont be able to open it in Excel 
or Word. So, you should first open Excel or Word. Then you have to 
select File and then click on Open option. Now, go to the location 
where the damaged file is stored. After this, just select the name of the 
file. You should select the drop-down arrow which is next to Open. At 
last, you should select Open and Repair. In case, the program can repair
the file, then it will open.
3. Reset File Associations:
First, you have to type Control Panel in the Search box. Then you have 
to select Control Panel in the list of search results. Here, you will see 
the Control Panel window will open. Now, you have to ensure that you 
are viewing the Control Panel in Category View and then just choose 
Programs. Then you have to select Default Programs. After this, just 
select Set Your Default Programs. Here, the Settings window will open 
with the selected Default Apps. Now, you have to select Set Defaults by 
App. Now, the list of programs will open. You just have to scroll down 
to Word or Excel and then select it. Then you have to choose Manage 
option. At last, just select the file type which is not associated with the 
MS Office program and then choose the program which you want to 
open that type of file.
4. Repair MS Office:
First, you have to type Control Panel in the Search box. Then you have 
to select Control Panel in the list of search results. Here, it will open the
Control Panel window. Then you should ensure that you are viewing 
the Control Panel in Category View and then just choose Programs. 
After this, you should select Uninstall a Program. Then you should 
select your version of Microsoft Office in the list of programs. Now you 
should select Change. After this, you should select Online Repair and 
then you have to choose Repair option. At last, just Restart your 
computer system and double-click the Office file which you want to 
open.
