BSc admissions in Chennai have grown by 35% over the last decade, with a clear shift from traditional sciences to applied and technology-driven fields like Computer Science, Data Science, and Biotechnology. This trend has been shaped by the IT sector’s talent demands, healthcare’s rising importance during and after the pandemic, and global interest in sustainability. Classical sciences remain valued but are no longer the first choice for most students. A steady rise in female enrollment highlights inclusivity and the role of Chennai’s colleges in empowering women in science and technology.
