What is
Yeti?
A fossil found by a French team
of paleontologists in 2008 may
be evidence of the existence of
ancient Yetis that lived as long as
40 million years ago. Some
people have reported seeing a
mysterious bipedal creature in
mountainous regions and believe
it to be the Yeti.

History of the Yeti
The Yeti, also known as the
Abominable Snowman and Bigfoot, is a
mythical giant ape-like creature said to
inhabit the Himalayan region of Nepal and
Tibet at altitudes between 9,000 feet and
23,000 feet.

History of the Yeti
The larger species of bear, including the
grizzly and particularly polar bears, may be
mistaken for a Yeti due to their size, weight
(not fur), and diet. The Yeti is a legendary
creature in the Himalayas. According to one
legend, the Yeti is a small humanoid creature
that roams the cold, snowy peaks of the
Himalayas.

History of the Yeti
Sightings of this creature have been
reported since the 6th century B.C; when
Alexander the Great allegedly demanded
proof of its existence as he ruled over
India. Other accounts from locals
describe it as resembling a human-ape
hybrid.

The Abominable
Snowman
The Abominable Snowman is
an elusive creature that has
yet to be seen. However, early
explorers claimed that they
had seen the beast and even
caught a glimpse of its
footprints.

The Abominable
Snowman
The book, Mount Everest,
1938 by Bill Tilman includes
an account of crossing the
Lhagpa La at 21,000 ft where
he found footprints that he
believed "were probably
caused by a large 'loping' gray
wolf".

The Abominable
Snowman
His Sherpa guides mentioned
that the tracks must be that of
'The Wild Man of the Snows',
looking like a muscular bipedal
creature, and then gave the
name 'metch-kangmi'".

The Abominable
"Metch" does noSt exnisto inw them an
Tibetan language; however it
may be derived from Tilman's
pronunciation of "metoh
kangmi". During this expedition,
he chronicled seeing many
footprints that he believed were
probably made by a large
"loping" gray wolf in the soft
snow which formed double
tracks similar to those of a
bare-footed man.

The Abominable
Snowman
He and his Sherpa guides
gave these prints the name
"metoh-kangmi". The word
"metoh" translates to
"manbear" and "kangmi",
which means snowman in
Tibetan.

What Does Yeti Look
Like?
The Yeti is often described as a
large, ape-like being. It has black
fur and white markings on its face
and is described to have a strong
scent. The characteristics most
often associated are those of an
apelike omnivore, with large eyes,
long shaggy hair, and an enormous
fur coat.

What Does Yeti Look
Like?
They seem to be vegetarian and
have been spotted eating berries
and fruit. Because they are so
elusive, it's hard to tell what they
look like exactly. Also, because
they mainly stay off the radar, we
do not know how big they actually
are or how tall they grow to be.
