Why Spandex Is the Best Fabric for Spandex Fibre
Activewear?
In the last few years, spandex fibre activewear has seen a significant shift. Activewear is more
than just clothing. Five years ago, if someone told us that our workout gear would be our favorite
pieces of clothing, we'd say they were dreaming.
It's hard to ignore the rise in activewear. Activewear has gained popularity since athleisure was a
thing. Even those who don't exercise regularly have activewear in their wardrobe.
Although cotton may seem like a good choice for activewear, it absorbs moisture which can cause it
to become heavy and uncomfortable. In recent years, fabric technology has improved greatly and
spandex (also known as Lycra) has been a popular choice for activewear.
Although it was first developed in Germany in 1937, it wasn't until the 1950s that it was used in
fabric to make stretchable clothing. Elastane is made from a long-chain polymer, polyurethane.
After the prepolymer is made, it is put to reaction with a diamine. This helps extend the polymer.
The product is spun into a spinning solution.
Why Spandex Activewear Is So Popular?
1. Stretchable
This is the ultimate workout fabric spandex. It's known for its ability to recover and stretch, and
activewear requires a fabric key with stretch.
The fabric must be stretchy and quick to recover to allow the body to move easily. Spandex fabric
blend is ideal for this purpose and has enjoyed a lot of popularity over the years.
2. Breathability
It is essential to wear a breathable fabric while working out or participating in any other sport.
Spandex is breathable and wicks moisture quickly, making it ideal for activewear clothing.
3. Durability
Workout clothes should be durable. Poor quality fabrics can cause clothing to tear easily during
exercise. Poor quality fabrics can easily tear clothing during rapid movements and contracting and
expanding muscles.
4. Combination of Other Fabrics
Combining spandex fibers and other fibers (e.g. nylon, polyester, or cotton) can significantly
improve the fabric's stretchability. To give spandex movement and elasticity, it can be mixed with
other fabrics.
5. Comfortable
It is important to feel comfortable while doing any activity. You will feel fresh and dry by choosing
a fabric that allows air to flow. Spandex is both breathable and elastic, making it comfortable.
Spandex can be used in many fabric blends today to increase its elasticity and stretch. It is still the
best choice for activewear and sportswear.
Because of its unique properties, it is ideal for clothing that is durable, comfortable, and doesn't
restrict movement.
