Choosing the Right Laser Fume Extractor
Choosing the Right Laser
Fume Extractor
Laser Fume
Extractor
Most laser engraving and cutting is done in a closed environment, trapping harmful
particulate in the work area unless actively vented out or filtered. By installing a
great quality of laser fume extraction systems, you can eliminate these risks and
increase morale for your employees.
Considerations for Choosing Laser Fume Extractor
First Consideration
First you should determine the air flow
requirement (CFM = Cubic Feet per Min.) per
the specifications of the laser manufacturer.
Second Consideration
Be sure you ask the fume extraction
manufacturer for the system airflow with
filters installed and not free blowing
capacity.
Third Consideration
The third consideration is to identify the
material you will be marking, cutting, or
etching. Most metals and glass will not
create odors so your main concern will be
capturing the particulates generated when
the material is incinerated by the laser
during the process.
Plastics, acrylics, wood, and textiles on the
other hand generate not only generate
particulates but also create odors that need
a higher volumes of activated carbon or
other adsorption media in the filter set up.
Fourth Consideration
The fourth consideration is how to deal with
odors or VOC’s. Consult with the
manufacturer to be sure activated carbon is
a good source for adsorption of the gases or
odors and also to determine if there is a
need for and explosion rated unit due to the
potential flammability of the VOC’s.
